![]() At a minimum I hope this serves as a warning for those looking for late model Ford AWD cars. In summary, Ford PTU problem/failure at 36,000 miles - original owner - 1 month past 5 year powertrain warranty. I will find out more today on a resolution. Needless to say - I'm not happy and can easily lawyer-up if needed to dispute or mediate with a Ford representative. I will argue that this was reported last month when it was under warranty and that we have been without a car since early December (when they told me not to drive it). My guess is that they will probably try to weasel a 50/50 deal or make him pay for labor. I have the November Ford Service Vehicle Report "Multi point inspection" where they check box everything including the transmission. Today I will be visiting the dealership and I'm looking for advice on how to handle this. Other issues include a lack of a drain plug or servicing the fluid. Since the bad news that was delivered, I then googled "Ford PTU" and found numerous complaints and problems with the PTU on AWD models and some explain that the seals fail and then leak oil onto the exhaust. ![]() Then he goes on to tell me that the car is 1 month beyond factory warranty and is not covered.Īlthough it is a 2013 model, my dad purchased it at the end of 2012. When I take it in, the service rep says "It's probably the PTU" and then describes how his personal Ford Edge had the same problem in the past and that it's "probably" the PTU and they will need to order an entire unit and should be covered by the powertrain warranty.Īfter 2 days in the shop, I get a call that says "Yes, it's the PTU and we'll have that in a day or two". I call the Ford dealer again and describe what I'm seeing/smelling and they advise "Don't drive it, and we can't get you an appointment until next week". Now, besides the oil spots, I can smell burning oil when driving. They performed the service and I drive the car for a week or so and I notice the spots still appearing on the drivers side just behind the front wheels. I take it into the dealer in early November for oil change, tire rotation, and tell them that is has an odd leak of a thick black oil/graphite that leaves a spot about the size of a quarter on our garage floor & driveway when parked. He is the original owner and only has 36k miles. but usually drive my own car that I prefer. I use it to take him to doctors appt, haircuts, etc. Although he barely drives it, we keep it in the garage so that he can maintain a connection with his belongings. His one "pride-and-joy" is his car, a 2013 Ford Edge AWD. ![]() My father is an 80yr old disabled Veteran that has recently moved in with my family because he can no longer take care of himself. ![]()
